Learn to Swim With Enfield Swimming Club
Our aim is to provide friendly comprehensive swimming lessons from ages 4 and above. Working initially on water confidence and basic aquatic skills we work to develop the child’s abilities and understanding of the water and environment. Then as the swimmers move through our groups we develop skill and technique of all four strokes, front crawl, back crawl, butterfly and breast stroke as well as the fundamentals of being competent and confident in the water.
All of our lessons are taught by ASA Qualified Swimming Teachers – Many of whom have been competitive swimmers themselves and all of our teachers bring a substantial expertise and wealth of knowledge to their classes. The teacher/pupil ratio of our classes is normally 8:1 (although in some circumsatnces may be 10:1). However, groups with young children normally operate on a 4:1 ratio.
The ASA have recently launched the revised National Plan for Teaching Swimming, which gives children a solid foundation in swimming. It is an all-inclusive programme which takes the non-swimmer from his or her first splash, journeying through aquatics and developing a wide range of skill and technique. Our lessons run for 30 minutes and as of March 2009 swimmers will be working towards the new ASA National Plan Awards.
We also offer adult swimming lessons ranging from the non-swimmer to those just wishing to work on their technique, skill and stamina.
Remember, swimming is great for your health, a fun activity and most importantly it’s the only sport that can save your life.

Swim Hats
(Taken from the Users Guide of the ASA National Plan for Teaching Swimming - NPTS)
Wearing a swim hat is advised, not only for reasons of safety, but also in relation to skill learning as the hair will inevitably interfere with vision and the flow of water across the eyes and face, causing erratic and inefficient head and body movements to be made. Modern swim caps are available which fit comfortably, can be put on and taken off with relative ease, and can be used to signify standards and classes, or even for programme identification.
Enfield Swimming Club therefore requires all of it’s swimmers to wear swim hats (club hats are available priced £5).
