Two weeks in a row Enfield SC’s team members have swam superbly well and walked away with first place.

Last week in our own Ron Philips Trophy and on Saturday evening at Southbury Road Leisure Centre, we came away with Broomfield Park SC’s Altenburge Trophy.

Fielding a team that had to race the right side of graded times, Enfield’s swimmers swam achieved 27 individual personal best times out of 34 individual races and one club record – Daniel Williams in the 100 F/c. Although achieving a pb sometimes meant no points were awarded to us after beating the graded time.
Picking a team is difficult for individuals and graded relay times but also trying to make sure everyone got a one individual and at least one relay pushed the patience a little too far.

Anyway we won and well done to all swimmers that took part.

Ron Philip Trophy gala at Southbury Road on Saturday 1st May
Congratulations to our Enfield SC gala squad in winning our own Ron Philip Trophy gala at Southbury Road on Saturday 1st May against local rivals Cheshunt, Haringey, Leyton, Bishop Stortford and Romford.

Considering the amount of hard work ”most” swimmers have been putting into the latest cycle of training and an extremely tough session the evening before – the swimmers looked in remarkable good form with 12 pb’s and three club records to Beth Hassan – 50m f/c,  the girls u/12 Medley Team of Chloe Welch, Louise Harvey, Jessie Montague and Emma Montague and finally the girls f/c team of Beth Hassan, Rianne Benjamin, Sara Khadraoui and Hannah Merry beat a long standing record (2002) in the u/15 age group- Congratulations.

This bodes well for the forthcoming LBESA meet in two weeks time where training will be tapered to a degree giving the swimmers a chance of achieving personal best times.

Thanks to all the poolside helpers who without this gala could not run. A massive big thank you to Mary McCormack who has had to relinquish her role as Team Manager due to personal commitments – thanks.

Enfield 215.5
Romford 193
Leyton 172.5
Haringey 167.5
Bishop Stortford 154
Cheshunt 150.5

Sid Barrett Trophy on Saturday 6th February - (Submitted 16 Feb 2010 at 16:24)
Enfield SC swimmers took part in our own annual Sid Barrett Trophy on Saturday 6th February at Southbury Road Leisure Centre and came away with a win! With teams from Harlow, Cheshunt, Broomfield Park, Romford, Haringey and Bishop Stortford. It was a close battle between Enfield and Cheshunt until the last ten races when we pulled away.

With newbie’s and oldies (12 year olds) taking part, we saw some fine swims from all around. personal best (PB’s) times were smashed along with a club record too. We did unfortunately receive some disqualifications (DQ’s) but this is a learning phase for most and corrections will be made to techniques over the next few weeks. Everyone taking part for Enfield should congratulate themselves on their behaviour and attitude in winning.

Swimmers taking part were Denise Payet, Alfie Revell, Ellie Betts Cooper, Daniel Alexander, Emma Montague, Erin Hassan, Neve Renny, Samuel Periera, Ted Winfield, Nora Khadraoui, William Ring, Stephanie Wrigglesworth, Alice Morteforte, Conor Waughman, Chloe Welch, Euan Renny, Erica Farthing, Fintan Mullahy, Hannah Hamden, James Hadjavvas, Jessie Montague, Leonidas Morales Joannou, Luke Harvey Nguyen, Louise Harvey, Matthew Barnes, Matthew Jennings, Nicola Avis, Shane Allen. Abbie Castricone, Christopher Morgan, Finn Crome Sweeney, Topi Alabi, Toprak Sabaz, Lauren Brigati, Zachary Samiotis, Ruby Palmer, Ruksanna Robinson, Alex Adams Steblecki, Dylan Williams, Beth Hassan, Ethan Renny, Ellen Blane, Jemil Payet, Janine Alexander, Kwaku Antwi, Rianne Benjamin, Reece Waughman, Ryan Whyte, Sara Khadroui and Zoe Kalotchytos.

Thanks to the tireless work behind the scenes of Tony and Lorraine Castricone, Gavin and Lorena Merry, Phil Howard, Jon Farthing, Rosa Alexander, Mounir Khadraoui, Daphne Smith, Vera Adams Steblecki, Mick and Tricia Montague, Nana Antwi, Carly Lynch and the unflappable Mary McCormack – visiting team’s swimmers and parents joined in a thrilling competitive but fun gala. One of my former swimmers – Carly Lynch, now a coach at Enfield – took to the occasion by running manically around the poolside making sure every swimmer had an individual and several relays each and at the end of the evening both Carly and I sat back and enjoyed the kids realisation that they had won and fun they had afterwards. They then bombed into the pool forgetting about the trophy they had just all won and put a smile on everyone’s face.

I would like to mention a special thank you to Gill and Phil Passmore (Griffins SC) who spent an hour or two setting up at the start of the gala and whose help we could have not run the gala so smoothly and professionally – thank you. Mark
