Two weeks in a row Enfield SC’s team members have swam superbly well and walked away with first place.

Last week in our own Ron Philips Trophy and on Saturday evening at Southbury Road Leisure Centre, we came away with Broomfield Park SC’s Altenburge Trophy.

Fielding a team that had to race the right side of graded times, Enfield’s swimmers swam achieved 27 individual personal best times out of 34 individual races and one club record – Daniel Williams in the 100 F/c. Although achieving a pb sometimes meant no points were awarded to us after beating the graded time.
Picking a team is difficult for individuals and graded relay times but also trying to make sure everyone got a one individual and at least one relay pushed the patience a little too far.

Anyway we won and well done to all swimmers that took part.

Ron Philip Trophy gala at Southbury Road on Saturday 1st May
Congratulations to our Enfield SC gala squad in winning our own Ron Philip Trophy gala at Southbury Road on Saturday 1st May against local rivals Cheshunt, Haringey, Leyton, Bishop Stortford and Romford.

Considering the amount of hard work ”most” swimmers have been putting into the latest cycle of training and an extremely tough session the evening before – the swimmers looked in remarkable good form with 12 pb’s and three club records to Beth Hassan – 50m f/c,  the girls u/12 Medley Team of Chloe Welch, Louise Harvey, Jessie Montague and Emma Montague and finally the girls f/c team of Beth Hassan, Rianne Benjamin, Sara Khadraoui and Hannah Merry beat a long standing record (2002) in the u/15 age group- Congratulations.

This bodes well for the forthcoming LBESA meet in two weeks time where training will be tapered to a degree giving the swimmers a chance of achieving personal best times.

Thanks to all the poolside helpers who without this gala could not run. A massive big thank you to Mary McCormack who has had to relinquish her role as Team Manager due to personal commitments – thanks.

Enfield 215.5
Romford 193
Leyton 172.5
Haringey 167.5
Bishop Stortford 154
Cheshunt 150.5

New Swimsuit Rules - (Submitted 09 Nov 2009 at 08:39)
New Swimsuit Rules We have been sent the following from Secretary MCASA Swimming Committee: I have been asked to write to you by Middlesex ASA Swimming Committee. I am sure the majority of you are aware of the new rules concerning swimsuits which came into force at all competitions held under ASA Laws and Technical Rules, with the exception of Masters, from 1st September 2009. However, the Swimming Committee has learnt that there have already been problems at meets in the County, where swimmers have been disqualified under the new rules. The ASA advises “ In swimming competitions, the competitor must wear only one swimsuit in one or two pieces which shall not cover the neck, extend past the shoulder, nor past the ankle. No additional items like arm bands or leg bands shall be regarded as parts of a swimsuit”. In practice, the crucial points to note are that the wearing of double costumes and the wearing of costumes with sleeves are no longer allowed. The ASA expect to introduce further changes to the rules in relation to swimsuits for competition from 1st January 2010. We understand that at this time swimsuits extending below the knee, and/or (for males only) above the waist, will no longer be permitted.
